Burns adds to team-leading goal scoring with six markers in Falcons victory

DUDLEY, Mass. (April 2, 2009) - Freshman Amanda Burns (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) recorded a game-high six points as Fitchburg State topped Nichols College, 13-6 in non-conference action this evening.

Burns added to her sensational rookie campaign with six scores, four groundballs and one caused turnover, while sophomore Kaitlyn Kelley (Pepperell, Mass./North Middlesex) added four points with three goals and one assist. Freshman Krista Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass./Hebron Academy) led the Nichols attack with three goals scored.

Fitchburg State controlled the offensive tempo early in the contest, grabbing a 7-2 lead at intermission. The duo of Kelley and Burns led the Falcons first half momentum with two and three scores respectively, while juniors Emily Swan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and Tori D'Amato (Hampden, Mass./Merrimack) added on tally apiece. Forand notched one, free-position goal for the Bison.

In the second half, Fitchburg State continued its offensive presence with a pair of 3-0 scoring runs to earn its second victory of the season. Burns connected for three scores in the frame, while Kelley, rookie Carly Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and freshman Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) posted one goal each.

Fitchburg State held a commanding 29-18 advantage in shots, while controlling 13-of-20 draw controls. Freshman Jillian Shaner (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) collected her first career victory in net, totaling four saves for the Falcons, while freshman Mary Michaud (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) stopped six shots for the Bison.

Fitchburg State (2-5, 0-2 NEWLA) will be in action again Saturday as it travels to Bridgewater State College at 12 p.m. Nichols (1-4, 0-3 TCCC) will host Curry College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
