Falcon Pair Claims NEWLA Weekly Honors

Finamore and Kennedy earn Offensive/Defensive Player of the Week accolades

FITCHBURG, Mass. (March 28, 2012) – Seniors Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang) collected New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) weekly honors this week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Finamore earned her first NEWLA Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season after leading the Fitchburg State women’s lacrosse team to a perfect 2-0 week. Throughout the week, Finamore totaled 23 points, posting 13 goals and 11 assists. In a 21-13 victory over Rivier College, the senior forward notched eight goals and four assists, while adding five scores and six dishes in an 18-5 conference victory over Elms College.

Kennedy also grabbed her first NEWLA Defensive Player of the Week honor after sparking a Falcons defense to a minimal 9.00 goals against average. Kennedy collected 14 draw controls, three groundballs and two caused turnovers throughout the week, while totaling a game-best nine DC’s and one goal scored in a 21-13 victory over Rivier.

The Fitchburg State women’s lacrosse team (2-3, 1-0 NEWLA) will be back in action on Thursday as it visits UMass Dartmouth at 4:30 p.m.
