Fitchburg State Explodes Past UMass Dartmouth, 16-11

White and Bartlett pace Falcons with a combined nine goals in non-conference win

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. (March 29, 2012) – Fitchburg State scored seven consecutive goals early in the second half and held on for a 16-11 victory over the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team in a non-conference match this evening.

Trailing, 7-6, the Falcons got a goal from freshman Lindsey White (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) with 29:04 remaining to tie the score. White scored twice more during the decisive run, which was capped by a goal by classmate Amber Nunes (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) with 15:33 to play.

The Corsairs rallied with a pair of goals from freshman Shelby Friedland (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) and single scores from junior Janelle Boyajian (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) and sophomore Taylor Corsano (Bourne, Mass./Bourne) but UMass Dartmouth did not come any closer than a four goal deficit (15-11).

White led the Falcons with five goals while junior Jessica Bartlett (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) added four. Senior Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) added to the mix with three scores on the evening, while sophomore Markie Apple (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) capped the Falcons top scorers with a pair of goals.

The Falcons outshot UMass Dartmouth, 44-21 for the contest. Sophomore Dylana Drolette (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) made four stops in the victory for Fitchburg State, while junior goalkeeper Angelina Donovan (Medford, Mass./Medford) made 19 saves for UMD.

Fitchburg State (3-3, 1-0 NEWLA) will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts Bridgewater State in a NEWLA contest starting at 11 a.m. UMass Dartmouth (3-4, 0-0 LEC) will host Western Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon.
