#1 Bridgewater State Silences #4 Fitchburg State, 21-5

White posts a pair of goals to lead Falcons in MASCAC semifinals

FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 2, 2013) – Top-seeded Bridgewater State scored 15 first half goals and cruised to a 21-5 victory over fourth-seeded Fitchburg State University in second round action of the 2013 MASCAC women's lacrosse tournament.

With the victory, the Bears improved to 16-2 on the season and advance to the championship game vs. second-seeded Westfield State University on Saturday. The Falcons conclude the 2013 season with an overall record of 6-12.

Bridgewater State scored 15 unanswered goals in the first half and tacked on six more scores in the second stanza to secure its spot in the MASCAC finals. Sophomore Lindsay White (Hanover, Mass.) led the Fitchburg State offensive attack, scoring two goals on the evening, while junior Chelsea Roberts (Newburyport, Mass.) added three points with one goal and two assists.

Senior Kristin Dooley (Salem, Mass.) and junior Markie Apple (Pittsfield, Mass.) also added scores for the Falcons, while freshman Elizabeth Darrigo (Billerica, Mass.) collected 13 saves in 60 minutes of work between the pipes.

For the game, Bridgewater State out-shot Fitchburg State 41-9 while notching a 35-12 advantage in groundballs. The Falcons held their own on the draw with a 14-14 split in draw controls, but the Bears converted 4-of-8 free position shots and caused 25 Fitchburg State turnovers to maintain offensive control of the contest.
