Plymouth State Shuts Down Fitchburg State, 25-4

Apple registers all four goals in Falcons non-conference setback to Panthers

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 25, 2013) – Junior Markie Apple (Pittsfield, Mass.) registered all four goals for the Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team as the Falcons fell to the visitings Panthers of Plymouth State University, 25-4 this evening.

The Panthers exploded in both halves, scoring 14 goals in the opening 30 minutes and 11 in the closing period. Four Panthers register three goals or more in the contest, while five other Plymouth State players netted multiple goals.

Apple was the lone bright spot for the Falcons, registering four unassisted markers on the evening. Apple connected for a pair of tallies throughout the first half of play, before adding two more scores midway through the second period.   

For the contest, Plymouth State out-shot Fitchburg State 39-10 while holding a 20-11 margin in draw controls. Plymouth State also controlled the ground game, posting a 22-9 advantage in groundballs and an 18-9 margin in turnovers.

In net, freshman Elizabeth Darrigo (Billerica, Mass.) registered seven stops for the Falcons in just over 40 minutes of work, while Casey Curran stopped three shots in the victory for the Panthers. 

Fitchburg State (5-10, 3-2 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it visits Worcester State at 12 p.m.
