Westfield State Shoots Past Fitchburg State, 16-6

Bartlett and Roberts notch a pair each in Falcons MASCAC setback

WESTFIELD, Mass. (April 6, 2013) – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team was in action this evening as it traveled to Westfield State University and suffered a 16-6 MASCAC setback to the Owls.

Senior Maura Stack scored a game-high seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) and sophomore Amanda Bouchard tallied four goals and an assist to lead Westfield State. The Owls boosted their overall record to 6-2 with their fourth straight victory (2-0 in the MASCAC), while Fitchburg drops to 2-5 and 0-2 in the conference.

The Owls outscored the Falcons, 8-3 in both halves to cruise to its second league victory. Westfield State snapped an early 1-1 tie on three consecutive goals by Bouchard, before goals from Bouchard and Stack gave the Owls an 8-2 lead with 10:28 remaining in the first half.

In the second half, the Owls continue their hot shooting, opening the period with a 5-1 run to take a 13-4 advantage. Westfield State maintained possession for the remainder of the contest and went to its bench as all 23 players saw the field.

For the game, the Owls outshot the Falcons, 39-16, while also posting a 16-8 margin in draw controls. On the night, Westfield State was also solid defensively, controlling the groundball game with 27-18 mark. 

Scoring two goals for the Owls were Stephanie Lenhardt, Sadie Graham and Megan Griffin, who also game highs of five ground balls and five draw controls. Senior Jessica Bartlett (Marlborough, Mass.) and junior Chelsea Roberts (Newburyport, Mass.) notched a pair of goals each for the Falcons. 

Fitchburg State (2-5, 0-2 MASCAC) will be back in action on Tuesday as it travels to New England College at 4 pm.
