Falcons Fly Past Becker, 18-6

MASCAC Rookie of the Week DeSimone tallies eight points in Falcons win 

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Fitchburg State (3-1) scored 15 goals in the opening half en-route to a 18-6 win over Becker College (3-3) in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest on Wednesday night at Elliot Field. Freshman Corinne DeSimone had a game-high six goals along with two assists in the victory.

The Falcons started off the scoring barrage tallying seven goals in the opening ten minutes of play, including a pair from sophomore Andrea Comeau and DeSimone. Becker would get on the board at the 18:12 mark on a free position shot from junior Rachel Welling, then their second of the period four minutes later by freshman Brittney Bebeau.

Fitchburg State ended the opening stanza on a 7-0 run to take a comfortable 15-2 lead into halftime.

In the second half of play Becker out-scored the hosts 4-3, which included a pair of markers from senior Tatum Fahs, but the Hawks comeback would ultimately fall short.

Senior Lindsey White contributed with a hat-trick, while freshman Carrie Long, classmate Jaimee Lutz, Comeau, and sophomore Ali Laferriere all chipped in with two goals in the win for the Green & Gold.

Becker was led by Welling with two goals and give draws-controls and Fahs with a pair of goals as well.

Junior goaltender Elizabeth Darrigo made two saves in the win between the pipes, while freshman Nicole Patterson took over between the pipes for the second half and made three stops.

Senior goalie Karena Prescott finished with 15 saves for Becker in the losing effort.

Fitchburg State held a 20-6 advantage in draw-controls, while holding a 25-20 edge in ground balls.

The Falcons will be back at Elliot tomorrow night as they host Elms College at 7:00pm., while Becker will visit Daniel Webster on Saturday for a noon time game.
