Fitchburg State Blazes Past Elms, 18-2

Long finishes with five points in Falcons victory 

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Fitchburg State (4-1) University women's lacrosse had eight goal scorers en-route to an 18-2 non-conference victory against Elms College (2-4) on Thursday night at Elliot Field. Freshman Carrie Long had a game-high four goals in the winning effort.

The Falcons got on the board first less than a minute into the contest on a free position shot by Long. Elms responded less than a minute later on a strike from Kayla Narey on a feed from Ashley Cava in what would be the Blazers lone goal of the half.

Fitchburg State ended the opening stanza on a 14-0 run, which included three goals each from freshman Jaimee Lutz and senior Lindsey White.

The Falcons tacked on three more goals in the closing half, while Elms scored their second of the contest at the 5:36 mark on a free-position shot by Jill Pirog, which resulted as the final score, 18-2.

Junior Elizabeth Darrigo made one stop in net for the Falcons in the winning effort, while freshman Nicole Patterson had four saves while playing the second half. Across the turf was Meeghan O'Connor for the Blazers with nine stops in the setback.

Long finished with four goals and one assist, while White contributed with three goals and one assist, and Lutz finished with a hat-trick as well for the hosts.

The Green & Gold will return to action on Saturday as they kick off MASCAC play on the road against defending conference champions Bridgewater State at 12:00pm. Elms visits Wheelock on the same day at 3:00pm.
