Fitchburg State Roars Past Wentworth, 16-6

Comeau and DeSimone register four goals each for Falcons in non-conference victory 

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Andrea Comeau and newcomer Corinne DeSimone tallied four goals each as the Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team defeated the Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology, 16-6 in non-conference action at Sweeney Field this evening in Boston.

With the win Fitchburg State collects it's program best seventh straight victory to improve to 7-1 on the season, while Leopards fall to 2-5 with the loss.

The Falcons went on an 8-0 over the first 12 minutes of play as DeSimone and Comeau both scored twice, while sophomores Ali Laferriere and Kayla Panek as well as junior Brianna Dunn each added markers en-route to taking a commanding 9-2 lead into the break.

In the second half, both teams proceed to trade scores (12-4) as Desimone, Dunn and freshman Jaimee Lutz found the back of the net for the Green and Gold, while senior Heather Saroch and junior Pam Mudge scored for Wentworth.

Fitchburg State put the game out of reach however, posting three straight goals from Panek, DeSimone and Comeau to make the score 15-4 with just 12 minutes remaining in the contest en-route the 16-6 final.

The Falcons were led offensively by Comeau with six points on four goals and two assists with six groundballs, one draw control and one caused turnover, while DeSimone finished with four points on four markers as well as four groundballs and one caused turnover.

Wentworth was paced by Mudge, who posted two points on two scores to go along with one groundball, one draw control and one caused turnover, while sophomore Brandie Holland collected two points on two scores and one groundball.

For the contest, Fitchburg State held a 39-18 advantage in groundballs, while also holding a 20-4 margin in draw controls. In goal, junior Elizabeth Darrigo stopped 11 shots in 52 minutes of action for the Falcons, while senior Robyn Pacini posted 25 saves in the complete game effort for Wentworth.

Fitchburg State (7-1, 1-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Saturday as it hosts the Owls of Westfield State University at 7 p.m. Wentworth (2-5, 0-4 TCCC) will host Becker College on Monday at 7 p.m.
