Falcons Sink MMA 19-7 on Senior Night

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Fitchburg State tied a season-high 19 goals in route to a 19-7 victory over Massachusetts Maritime on Friday night at Elliot Field in Massachusetts State Collegiate Conference (MASCAC) women's lacrosse action. 

The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals from Corinne DeSimone and Ali Laferriere, before Mass. Maritime got on the board on a marker by Dahlia Seggelin.

Fitchburg State proceeded on a 5-0 run, including three goals from Lindsey White to give the hosts a 7-1 advantage midway through the opening stanza.

Both teams would exchange goals a number of times throughout the remainder of the period, including three goals from Stephanie Hunt for the Buccaneers, as the Green & Gold took a 9-4 lead into halftime.

After going back and forth with goals to start the half, Fitchburg State went on a 6-0 run to pull the game out of reach and take a comfortable 12 goal lead (17-5).

Andrea Comeau and Jessica Sullivan would add goals in the later going to extend the Falcons lead to 19-6, before Christina Murphy found the back of the net on a pass from Molly Smith with one minute on the clock for MMA for the final, 19-7.

Fitchburg State held a 44-24 advantage in shots, while holding a 20-8 edge in draw-controls.

Mikayla Correia made 21 saves in the losing effort for the Buccaneers, while Elizabeth Darrigo had 13 stops in the victory.

White finished with a game-high five goals, while DeSimone contributed with four goals and one assist.

Prior to the contest White and Sullivan were recognized for their contributions to the program over the past four years, while being accompanied by their family members.

Fitchburg State will await the final results of conference play over the weekend to get their final seeding for the conference tournament.
