Eastern Connecticut State Tops Fitchburg State, 13-2

Laferriere and Comeau collect one goal each for Falcons in non-conference setback

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse was in action this evening, dropping a tough 13-2 decision to the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference action at the Mansfield Athletic Complex.

Fitchburg State and Eastern Connecticut State traded goals to open the contest with senior Ali Laferriere finding the back of the net for the Falcons, while junior Jenna Glynn scored for the Warriors (1-1).

The Warriors proceeded to go on an 8-0 run to close out the first half as senior Paige Schneider led the way with four markers, while Glynn, junior Katie Burke, senior Caroline Regan and freshman Alyssa Powers added goals for Eastern Connecticut State to make the score 9-1 going into the break.

Following the intermission, the hosts extended its advantage on tallies by Burke, freshman Alyssa Forssell, sophomore Erin Sheehan and senior Amanda Will (13-1) before the Falcons closed out the scoring on a marker from senior Andrea Comeau, resulting in the 13-2 final.

The Green and Gold were paced by Laferriere and Comeau who combined for two goals, two ground balls, three draw controls and one caused turnover, while junior Carrie Long finished with a game-best six ground balls, one draw control and three caused turnovers.

For the Warriors, Schneider led all scorers with five points on four goals and one assist as well as three ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers, while Burke chipped in with two markers and one assist for three points to go along with one caused turnover.

Throughout the contest, Eastern Connecticut State held a slim 18-17 margin in shots, while the ground balls were even at 21 apiece. In goal, sophomore Marguerite Belcher turned aside two shots for Fitchburg State in the complete game effort, while senior Taylor Emmerson made eight saves for Warriors in 60 minutes of work.

Fitchburg State (2-4, 0-0 MASCAC) returns to action next Tuesday as it travels to Rivier University to take on the Raiders for a contest starting at 6 p.m. Eastern Connecticut State (5-1, 0-0 LEC) will visit Framingham State on Saturday at 11 a.m.
