Falcons Defeated By Rams, 18-9

T. Long and Alves combine for five goals in MASCAC setback

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's lacrosse team dropped a tough 18-9 decision to the Rams of Framingham State University this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Maple Street Field.

How It Happened

Framingham State opened the scoring on goal from freshman Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Grace Gamache (Dartmouth, Mass.) before the Falcons answered with a tally by sophomore Sarah Napolitano (Peabody, Mass.) (2-1).

With the score 5-1, the Falcons cut into the deficit as sophomore Tracy Long (Georgetown, Mass.) found the back of the net before the Rams extended its margin on scores a pair of scores from Gamache and one by Marino to make the score 9-2.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State responded with markers from junior Anna Gagnon-Burch (Putney, Vt.) and classmate Sarah Mallahan (Dracut, Mass.) (10-4). Framingham State upped its lead (13-4) as Marino, sophomore Nicole Pacheco (Woburn, Mass.) and classmate Caitlin Baril (Lakeville, Mass.) connected on goals.

The Falcons battled back with two scores by T. Long and freshman Madison Alves (Braintree, Mass.), but the Rams secured the win as senior Kimberly Foley (Mansfield, Mass.) capped the scoring for the hosts, resulting in the 18-9 final.

Fitchburg State had four of the last five contests with Framingham State, with the Rams collecting a 7-5 victory in the last meeting (4/14/17) at the Maple Street Field as senior Carrie Long paced the Falcons with four groundballs, two draw controls and five caused turnovers.

T. Long led the way for the Falcons with a team-best three points on three goals as well as two ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover, while Alves added three points on two goals and one assist to go along with one ground ball and one draw control.

For the Rams, Gamache finished with 11 points on four goals and seven assists as well as one ground ball and eight draw controls, while Foley chipped in with four goals and one assist to go along with one ground ball and two draw controls.

In goal, junior Marguerite Belcher (Quincy, Mas.) stopped seven shots for Fitchburg State in the complete game effort, while junior Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) made nine saves in 54:46 minutes of action.

Falcons will travel to Salem State on Tuesday to take on the Vikings for a MASCAC match up, starting at 7:00 PM. Rams will visit Westfield State on the same day for a conference tilt at 7:00 PM.
