Kozikowski notches 100th career point for Green and Gold

Wenham, Mass. - The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-9 decision to the Fighting Scots of Gordon College this afternoon in non-conference action from the Brigham Athletic Complex.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State took a 2-1 edge early in the first quarter as senior Eva Kozikowski (Portsmouth, N.H.) and sophomore Delaney Ponder (East Bridgewater, Mass) found the back of the net before Gordon answered with sophomore Kaitlyn Mini (Malden, Mass.) netting a pair of tallies, while freshman Caroline Piorkowski (Millis, Mass.) and junior Alexis LaPia (Exeter, N.H.) added one score each for the 5-2 advantage.

In the second period of play, the Fighting Scots pushing the lead to 7-2 with Piorkowski and sophomore Mikayla Lecci (Yaphank, N.Y.) netting goal before the Falcons responded as sophomore Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, Mass.) registering her first goal of the season to make the score 7-3.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State trimmed the deficit to 8-5 when Ponder and sophomore Abaigeal Gilman (Clinton, Mass.) connected on back-to-back scores, but Gordon answered back on a Piorkowski marker for the 9-5 advantage. The Green and Gold closed out the third quarter scoring with newcomer Jessica St. George (Dracut, Mass.) potting her first collegiate tally to make the score 9-6.

In the final period of play, Gordon and Fitchburg State traded goals to start the frame as Piorkowski and Mini found the back of the net for the hosts, while Kozikowski struck for a pair of goals, including 100th career point for the visitors (12-8).

The Falcons continued to battle when Gilman posted her second score of the contest to make the score 12-9, but the Fighting Scots secured the victory when LaPia connected on back-to-back goals, resulting in the 14-9 final.
