Women's Lacrosse Cruise Past Anchorwomen

St. George paces Falcons with game best five goals

Providence, RI. – The Fitchburg State Women's Lacrosse team collected a 19-3 triumph over the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College this afternoon in non-conference action from Alumni Stadium.

How It Happened

In the opening quarter, Fitchburg State grabbed a 7-0 advantage with sophomore Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA) and junior Delaney Ponder (East Bridgewater, MA) leading the way with two goals apiece. Rhode Island College answered as freshman Livia Sweeney (North Kingstown, RI) netted a marker to cut the deficit to 7-1. The two teams traded goals to end the frame with junior Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, MA) finding the back of the net for the Falcons, while junior Hannah Marley (Tiverton, RI) notched the score for the Anchorwomen.

The Falcons upped the lead to 11-2 with newcomer Noelle Kennedy (Walpole, MA) netting back-to-back scores before the Anchorwomen responded as Marley notched her second tally of the contest (11-3). The Green and Gold closed out the half with tallies by junior Abaigeal Doheny (Lunenburg, MA) and St. George for the 13-3 margin going into the break.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State extended the advantage to 17-3 with Ponder, junior Nicole Orlowski (Ellington, CT), freshman Samantha Azzari (Haverhill, MA) and classmate Hannah Azzari (Haverhill, MA) potting goals in the third stanza. The Falcons secured the victory in the fourth quarter with St. George closing out the scoring with a pair of scores, resulting in the 19-3 final.

The Falcons return to action on Tuesday as they host the Raiders of Rivier University for a non-conference tilt, starting at 4:00 PM.
