Fitchburg State Earns No. 3 Seed In ECAC Championships

Third-seeded Falcons host sixth-seeded Emmanuel College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

FITCHBURG, MASS. (November 11, 2008) - The Fitchburg State women's soccer team earned an ECAC Division III Championship berth this afternoon after being named the third-seed for the tournament by conference officials. The Falcons will host Emmanuel College on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.

Junior Lauren Wundt (Southwick, Mass./Southwick-Tolland) as led the Fitchburg State offensive front with a team-high 32 points on 15 goals and two assists. Earlier this season, Wundt broke the program's all-time points record as well as the all-time goals record previously held by Maryann Barrett. The standout forward has appeared in 18 games for the Falcons, tallying a team-high four game-winning goals.

Aiding Wundt on the offensive side has been MASCAC Rookie of the Year selection, Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang). This season, Kennedy ranks second on the team in scoring, totaling 20 points on eight goals and four assists. Kennedy has been a vital part of the Fitchburg State attack, netting two game-winning goals on a team-high 55 shots.

The Falcons have also been strong defensively led by the stellar play of junior keeper Emily Swan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin). Swan was the backbone of the Falcon defense this season, starting 15 games in net. The veteran net-minder has totaled 47 saves in 969 minutes en route to a .734 save percentage and three complete-game shutouts.
