Fitchburg State Pulls Away From Anna Maria, 5-0

Landry sets program's career assist mark with two helpers in non-conference win

PAXTON, Mass. (October 7, 2010) – Freshman Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) scored twice and senior Ali Landry (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) tied the Falcon's all-time assist record, as Fitchburg State scored four times in the second half to defeat Anna Maria, 5-0, at AMCAT Field this evening.

ALI LANDRY

Landry registered two assists in the contest, tying Fitchburg State's all-time assist record with her 17th career assist. The senior captain matched former star, Kristen Hayward's previous record of 17 set back in 2006.

In addition to the two goals by Jamieson, the Falcons also received tallies from junior Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang), sophomore Megan Macomber (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton), and freshman Nicole Stone (Webster, Mass./Bartlett), while freshman Hayley Bissonette (Scotland, Conn./Parish Hill) contributed an assist in the win.

Fitchburg State got on the board early in the first half as Jamieson scored an unassisted tally in the tenth minute of play to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Despite outshooting the AMCATS 23-0 during the opening half, the score remained just 1-0 at intermission due to the fine play of goalkeeper Tabitha Ruggeri, who turned away 11 shots in the first period alone.

In the second frame, the Falcons came out strong, scoring twice in the first six minutes of the half. Landry assisted on both scores as Kennedy and Jamieson extend the Fitchburg State lead to 3-0. Stone added an unassisted goal in the 74th minute to bring the Falcons lead to 4-0, while Macomber notched the final score of the game off a nice feed from Bissonette.

Fitchburg State enjoyed a huge shot differential, out-shooting Anna Maria 47-1 in the contest. Freshman goalkeeper Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) earned the victory in net for the Falcons, posting one save over 81 minutes of work, while Ruggeri totaled 24 stops in net for the AMCATS.

Fitchburg State (6-4-1, 1-2-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts Mass-Maritime at 10 a.m. Anna Maria (0-10-2, 0-6-1 TCCC ) will host University of New England on Saturday at 12 p.m.
