Fitchburg State Shoots Past Mass-Maritime, 6-2
Kennedy and Jamieson lift Falcons to second conference victory of the season
FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 9, 2010) – The Fitchburg State women's soccer team used a four goal, second-half to earn its second conference victory, defeating Mass-Maritime Academy, 6-2 in MASCAC action this afternoon.

Junior Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang) and freshman Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) led the Fitchburg State attack with two goals apiece, while senior captain Ali Landry (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) added three points with one goal and two assists. Senior Stephanie Lee (Acton, Mass./Scarsdale) and freshman Lauren Salem (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) each scored for Mass-Maritime.
Fitchburg State got on the board early as Landry registered her first goal of the season, burying a Courtney Kimball (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) feed just 5:37 into the match. The Falcons doubled their lead in the 19th minute as Kennedy hit home for her sixth goal of the season with a top-shelf strike from ten yards out.
Trailing 2-0 at the start of the second half, Mass-Maritime came out firing, cutting the Fitchburg State lead to 2-1 as Lee opened the frame with her fourth tally of the season. The Falcons answered immediately, rifling off back-to-back targets over a span of 3:16 for a 4-1 cushion. Jamieson responded to the Bucs goal with a marker of her own just 19 seconds after the score, while Kennedy added her second tally of the game in the 55th minute.
The Buccaneers rallied back, using a Salem goal at the 58:33 mark for a two goal deficit but the Falcons finished the contest strong with a pair of markers for a 6-2 victory. Freshman Nicole Stone (Webster, Mass./Bartlett) ended the Buccaneers comeback, rifling a left-footed shot past the side of goalkeeper Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass./Chatham), while Jamieson capped the game's scoring with her second tally of the match for Fitchburg State's second MASCAC win.
Fitchburg State paced the match with a 35-5 advantage in targets, while holding a commanding 11-0 margin in corner kicks. Freshman Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) earned the victory with 45 minutes of shutout action, while junior Melanie Berent (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) stopped two shots in her half of work. Johnson finished the contest with a game-high 12 stops for the Bucs.
Fitchburg State (7-4-1, 2-2-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Tuesday as it travels to Wellesley College at 4 p.m. Mass-Maritime (2-6-0, 0-4-0 MASCAC) will visit Pine Manor College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
