Curry Nips Fitchburg State, 3-1

Jamieson registers lone goal for the Falcons

MILTON, Mass. (September 25, 2012) – Junior Brittney McLaughlin (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) netted two goals as Curry College defeated Fitchburg State, 3-1 in non-conference women's soccer action this evening.

In the opening period, Curry raced out to early lead just 53 seconds into the contest as senior Brooke Moore (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) connected for her first goal of the season, Moore fired a shot inside the near post to put the Colonels up 1-0. Fitchburg State quickly knotted the score (1-1) nearly two minutes later when junior Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) took a feed from freshman Nicole Perez (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown) and deposited the ball into back the net

In the second stanza, the Colonels regained the lead in the 65th minute as McLaughlin notched her second tally of the season for the 2-1 advantage. Curry upped its lead less than seven minutes later as McLaughlin found the back of the net for her second marker of the game resulting in the 3-1 final.

Throughout the match, Curry College out shot Fitchburg State 24-22, while the Falcons held a narrow 6-4 margin in corner kicks. Between the pipes, junior Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) made 13 saves in the complete game effort for the Falcons, while junior Hayley Lorge (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) stopped five second half shots for the Colonels.

Fitchburg State (1-8, 0-2 MASCAC) will be back in action on Thursday as it hosts Nichols College at 7 p.m. Curry College (4-3-1, 1-1-0 TCCC) will host Wheelock College on Thursday at 7 p.m.
