Bridgewater State Downs Fitchburg State, 3-0

Kirouac posts seven saves for Falcons

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (October 12, 2013) – Junior forward Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, Mass./) netted a pair of goals to lead Bridgewater State to a 3-0 victory over Fitchburg State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASAC) women's soccer action this afternoon at Swenson Field.

In the first frame, Bridgewater State opened the scoring in the 16th minute of play as Jonasson settled a cross from sophomore forward Mackenzie Hatfield (Whitman, Mass.) and tucked the ball inside the left post for her team-leading ninth marker of the season for the 1-0 margin.

Fitchburg State nearly knotted the score in the 32nd minute of action when freshman midfielder Alexa Sterner (Worcester, Mass.) fired a shot to the upper right corner of the net that Bridgewater State keeper Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) just tipped over the cross bar to deny to scoring chance.

The Bears doubled their lead (2-0) at the 37:28 mark when Jonasson connected for her second tally of the contest. The junior forward collected a loose ball in front of the net and blasted a shot inside the near post for the unassisted score just before intermission.

Following the break, the hosts added an insurance marker 17 minutes into the second stanza as senior midfielder Katie Nasuti (Millbury, Mass.) netted her second score of the season off an assist from senior Megan O'Leary (Whitman, Mass.) for the 3-0 final.

For the contest, Bridgewater State out shot Fitchburg State 15-5, while limiting the Falcons to just one corner kick. Between the pipes, senior Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass.) collected seven saves in the complete game effort for Fitchburg State, while Yowell stopped three shots in 90 minutes of work for the Bears.
