Fitchburg State Defeats Mass. Maritime, 2-0

Carroll and Jamieson notch one goal apiece in Falcons MASCAC victory

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. (September 28, 2013) – The Fitchburg State women's soccer team defeated Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 2-0 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Clean Harbor Stadium.

With the victory, Fitchburg State improved to 4-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the MASCAC to extended its winning streak to three games, while Mass, Maritime falls to 2-3-2 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play

Fitchburg State opened the scoring in the 34th minute of action when senior back Kimberly Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) registered her first marker of the season. Carroll settled a corner kick off the foot of sophomore Jacqueline Walker (Derry, N.H.) and blasted a shot from the left side to put the Falcons up 1-0 heading into intermission.

Following the break, the Falcons added an insurance tally at the 58:49 mark as senior forward Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass.) struck for her second goal of the season with an unassisted score, resulting in the 2-0 final.

Throughout the match, Fitchburg State controlled the offensive end, out shooting Mass. Maritime 23-2 (15-2 on target), while limiting the Buccaneers to just one corner kick. In net, senior Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass.) registered two saves en-route to her second shutout of the season for Fitchburg State, while sophomore Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H.) made 12 stops in the complete game effort for Mass. Maritime.

Fitchburg State (4-5-0, 1-1-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Wednesday as it hosts the Pilgrims of New England College at 7 p.m. Mass. Maritime Academy (2-2-2, 0-2-0 MASCAC) will host Fisher College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
