Kirouac collects eight saves for Fitchburg State
FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 5, 2013) – Freshman forward Natalie Caney (Belchertown, Mass.) posted two markers as MCLA defeated Fitchburg State, 2-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon at Elliot Field.
MLCA grabbed an early lead at the 5:54 mark of the opening stanza as Caney took a feed from classmate Jackie Dwyer (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) and tucked the ball inside the right post for her team-leading tenth marker of the season for the 1-0 margin going into the break.
Following intermission, the Trailblazers quickly upped their lead just 56 seconds into the second half when Caney fired a shot into the back of net for her second score of the contest off an assist from senior Jennifer Ferrari (Westfield, Mass.) for the 2-0 advantage.
Fitchburg State's best scoring opportunity of the frame came at the 58:20 mark as senior forward Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass.) broke through the Trailblazers defense and blast a shot on target that MCLA keeper Kathryn Daly (South Cairo, N.Y.) was able to gather to preserve the 2-0 shutout victory.
Throughout the match, Fitchburg State out shot MCLA 16-13, while also holding a 7-4 advantage in corners.
