Murphy Steps Down As Falcons Head Coach

Second-year head coach steps down as women's soccer mentor

FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 19, 2013) – Fitchburg State women's soccer coach Shannon Murphy recently announced that she will be stepping down as the Falcons mentor after a four-year career with the University.

Murphy joined the Fitchburg State coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2010 after completing a four-year career with NCAA Division II powerhouse, The College of Saint Rose. In 2012, she was named the seventh head coach in program history in which she led the Falcons to five, MASCAC All-Conference nominations and nine victories.

"I would like to thank Shannon for her years of work with Fitchburg State and I wish her well with her future endeavors," said Sue Lauder, Director of Athletics at Fitchburg State University.

Prior to Fitchburg State, Murphy served as a standout goalkeeper at the College of Saint Rose, leading the Golden Knights to four consecutive Northeast-10 (NE-10) Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances. She was a five-time recipient of the Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week honor and a two-time ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week honoree.

The Fitchburg State women's soccer team concluded the 2013 season with an overall record of 6-12 and a 2-5 mark in the MASCAC. Applications are currently being accepted for the head coach position by visiting www.fitchburgstate.edu
