Fitchburg State Streaks Pasts New England College, 4-0

Jamieson collects three points in Falcons fourth straight victory

FITCHBURG, Mass. (October 2, 2013) – Six different Falcons registered a point to lift the Fitchburg State women's soccer team over New England College, 4-0 in non-conference action this evening at Elliot Field.

With the victory, Fitchburg State improves to 5-5-0 and 1-1-0 in the MASCAC to extend its winning streak to four games, while New England College falls to 4-6-2 and 2-1 within the NAC.

Following a scoreless first stanza, the Falcons grabbed the lead at the 55:02 mark when senior forward Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass.) received a feed from classmate Kristen Cameron (Webster, Mass.) and tucked the ball into the near side of the net for her third tally of the season for the 1-0 advantage.

The Green and Gold quickly doubled their margin (2-0) 32 seconds later as freshman back Samantha Zina (Abington, Mass.) collected a pass from Jamieson and blasted a shot inside the left post for her third marker of the season.

The hosts upped their lead in the 72nd minute of action when junior Kayla Bridges (Foxboro, Mass.) struck for her team-leading fifth score of the year on an assist from senior Nicole Stone (Webster, Mass.) for the 3-0 advantage before capping the game's scoring less than eight minutes later on freshman Brittany Skelly's (Medway, Mass.) unassisted tally, resulting in the 4-0 final.

In the first half, Fitchburg State nearly broke the 0-0 stalemate in the 42nd minute of play as Stone fired a shot that appeared to be heading into the net before Pilgrim midfielder Alyssa Whitcomb (Littleton, Mass.) slid in at the last second to deflect the ball away from the net to preserve the 0-0 deadlock heading into the break.

New England College's best opportunity of the frame came at the 28:04 mark when sophomore Lenee Cyr (Hudson, Mass.) launched a shot from 40 yards out that Falcon keeper Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass.) was just able to turn aside.

Throughout the match, the Falcons controlled the tempo, outshooting New England College by a 22-10 margin, while also holding a 7-3 margin in corner kicks. In goal, Kirouac finished with four saves in 75:22 minutes of work for Fitchburg State, while junior Tricia Sardagnola (Shrewsbury, Mass.) stopped nine shots in the complete game effort for the Pilgrims.
