Santos nets two goals in Falcons first victory of the season

LEICESTER, Mass. (September 9, 2014) – Senior forward Sierra Santos (Lakeville, Mass.) registered two goals as Fitchburg State defeated Becker College, 4-0 in non-conference women's soccer action this evening at Alumni Field.

Santos got the scoring started for Fitchburg State in the tenth minute of action when she blasted a shot into the top right corner of the net on a feed from classmate Kayla Bridges (Foxboro, Mass.) for the 1-0 advantage.

The Falcons doubled their lead at the 24:42 mark as senior Kelsey Murphy (Maynard, Mass.) collected a loose ball that rebounded off of Becker goalie Katherine Cormier (San Diego, Calif.) and chipped the ball inside the far post for her first collegiate tally to make the score 2-0.

The Green and Gold upped its margin in the 34th minute of play when sophomore Carolyn Ciccatelli (Rochester, Mass.) converted a breakaway attempt into her first goal on the season for the 3-0 lead going into the break.

Following intermission, Fitchburg State capped the scoring at the 60:48 mark as freshman Whitney Mansfield (Lunenburg, Mass.) crossed the ball over to Santos, who proceeded to blast a shot into the back of the net for her second score of the match, resulting in the 4-0 final to give Falcons' first year head coach Patti McColl her first career collegiate victory.

Throughout the contest, Fitchburg State out shot Becker 19-4, while also holding a slim 5-3 margin in corner kicks.
