Ford registers four saves in Falcons non-conference setback
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's soccer team was in action this evening, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Lynx of Lesley University in non-conference women's action at Edwards Field.
In the first half, Lesley took the lead in the 31st minute of play as junior midfielder Hayley Wirth collected a feed from senior Emily Johnston and fired a shot into the upper left corner of the net for the 1-0 advantage.
The Falcons nearly knotted the score just before halftime when newcomer Danyel Stone blasted a shot on frame, but Lynx goaltender Lilly Donovan was able to deflect off target to preserve the 1-0 lead going into the break.
Following intermission, the Lynx doubled their lead at the 54:35 mark as graduate student Veronica Halen deposited the ball into the back of the net for her second tally of the season to make the score 2-0.
The hosts upped its advantage (3-0) in the 76th minute of play when junior Samantha Rapant blasted a shot inside the near post off an assist from senior Alexis Giusti before capping the scoring five minutes later on a marker by senior Jasmine Sanchez, resulting in the 4-0 final.
Throughout the match, Lesley held a 14-5 advantage in shots, while also holding a 6-3 margin in corner kicks. In between the pipes, senior Kelsey Ford finished with four saves in the complete game effort for Fitchburg State, while Donovan made two stops en-route to the clean sheet for the Lynx.
Fitchburg State (2-9-1, 0-2-1 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts the Bears of Bridgewater State University at 12 p.m. Lesley University (9-3-0, 2-0-0 NECC) will host Daniel Webster College on Saturday for a contest starting at 6 p.m.
