MCLA Takes Down Fitchburg State, 4-0

Ford collects five saves for Fitchburg State

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.– Junior back Alexi Anderson posted two markers as MCLA defeated Fitchburg State, 4-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.

MLCA grabbed the lead midway through the opening stanza as Anderson collected a feed from junior Nicole Zacchio at midfield and fired a shot into the right side of net for her first marker of the season to make the score 1-0.

The Trailblazers doubled their advantage (2-0) roughly seven minutes later when Anderson collected a loose ball from 20 yards out and blasted a shot into the back of the net for her second score of the contest.

The hosts upped their lead at the 41:56 mark as sophomore Jackie Dwyer received a pass from newcomer Courtney Hayer at the top of the box and deposited the ball inside the near post for the 3-0 lead going into halftime.

Following intermission, the Trailblazers capped the scoring with 12 minutes remaining in the match when Zacchio connected for her second goal of the season on an assist from Anderson, resulting in the 4-0 final.

Throughout the match MCLA outshot Fitchburg State 20-11, while also holding a 10-0 advantage in corners. In goal, senior Kelsey Ford registered five saves in the complete game effort for Fitchburg State, while sophomore Kathryn Daly finished with four stops en-route to clean sheet for the Trailblazers.

Fitchburg State (2-8-1, 0-2-1 MASCAC) will be back in action on Thursday as it travels to Lesley University for a contest starting at 8 p.m. MCLA (3-6-1, 1-2-0 MASCAC) will host Western New England College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
