Fitchburg State Falls At Curry, 3-0

Foster stops six shots for the Falcons in non-conference setback

MILTON, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision to the Colonels of Curry College in non-conference action at the Walter M. Katz Field this evening. With the win, the Colonels improve to 4-4-1 while the Falcons fall to 2-5-0 on the season.

Despite the shots being even in the first half (7-7), it was the Colonels who were able to capitalize and get on the scoreboard first at the 12:10 mark as junior Cassie Grasso deposited the ball into the back of the net for her second goal on the season for the 1-0 lead.

The Colonels doubled their advantage (2-0) in the 34th minute of play when freshman Megan Ladner netted her first collegiate goal after she collected a loose ball off a rebound and sent it into the left side of the net.

In the second half, Curry continued its offensive pressure, upping its lead at the 67:30 mark as junior Amanda Crisfulla one-timed the ball into the upper corner of the net for her third score on the year to make the score 3-0.

Fitchburg State's best scoring opportunity was in the 83rd minute of action when freshman Gabriella Foster and sophomore Maddie Medina put back-to-back shots on frame, but Colonels goaltender Kristen Buzzotta denied both shots, resulting in the 3-0 final.

Throughout the contest, Fitchburg State and Curry finished with 12 shots each, while the Colonels held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. In goal, freshman Alexandra Foster made six saves for the Falcons in the complete game effort, while Buzzotta stopped all ten shots she faced for Curry in 90 minutes of work.

The Colonels returns to action on Saturday, September 24th when they travel to Nichols College for a contest starting at 2:30 p.m. The Falcons return to action on Saturday as well when they travel to MASCAC rival Westfield State for a 12:00 p.m. start.
