Falcons/Hawks Play To 1-1 Double Overtime Draw

Marshall nets lone goal for Fitchburg State in double ot stalemate

Leicester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team and Becker College played to a 1-1 double overtime draw this afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 1, Becker 1

Records: Fitchburg State (1-0-1) | Becker (1-0-1)

How It Happened

Becker College took a 1-0 lead at the 28:04 mark of the opening frame as sophomore midfielder Kyra Teixeira (Old Lyme, Conn.) gathered a feed from classmate Shannon Kelley (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone Valley) and found the back of the net for her first tally of the year.

Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) in the 33rd minute of play when freshman Elicia Marshall (Taunton, Mass.) received a header from sophomore Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass.) before depositing the ball inside the far post for her team-leading fourth score of the season.

In the second half of play, the Falcons nearly grabbed the lead with twenty minutes remaining in regulation as Mitchell rifled a shot on frame, but Hawks goaltender Lyndsey Cobb-Wilkins (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) made a clutch save to send the game into overtime.

In the overtime periods, Fitchburg State had the best opportunity of either team when senior Hannah Keohan (Lunenburg, Mass./Lunenburg) blasted a shot on frame only to be turned aside by Cobb-Wilkins, resulting in the 1-1 double overtime stalemate.

Inside the Numbers

This afternoon's contest marks the 15th meeting between the two squads on the pitch with the Falcons 9-5-1 all-time when taking on the Hawks.

Fitchburg State had won four of the last five meetings with Becker, with the Hawks registering a 1-0 triumph last season at Elliot Field.

Fitchburg State held a 21-15 margin in shots, while Becker finished with a slim 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

In between the pipes, sophomore Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass./Nauset Regional) made five stops for the Falcons, while Cobb-Wilkins and senior Jordan Martel (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee) combined for seven saves for the Hawks.
