Gough posts 12 saves

Dudley, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on the road at Nichols College on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 0, Nichols 2
Records: Fitchburg State (0-4) | Nichols (2-2-1)

How It Happened

Both teams battled to a scoreless first half. Junior goaltender Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) posted 4 saves in the frame while the Nichols netminder freshman Adie Hughes (Hampden, Maine) made one stop. Sophomore Ashley Porter (Upton, Mass.) had the lone shot on goal for the Falcons.

The Bison took a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the second half when junior Niah Samboy (Berlin, Conn.) converted a penalty kick after a defensive foul in the box by the Falcons. The Green and Gold countered with a partial break-a-way from freshman Abaigeal Gilman (Clinton, Mass.) whose shot was stopped by Hughes.

Senior Maegan Roy (Thompson, Conn.) doubled the lead for the hosts in the 67th minute with a deep shot into the upper left corner.

Gough had 12 saves on the day, not one better than a fingertip stop on a penalty shot from Khalyn Hatcher (Waterford, Conn.) in the 73rd minute.
