How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly grabbed the lead as sophomore Ashley Porter (Upton, Mass.) fired shot that deflected off the cross bar, before freshman Abaigeal Gilman (Clinton, Mass.) blasted a shot that Mass. Maritime keeper Lindsy Durgin (Rochester, Mass.) turned aside.

The Buccaneers best scoring opportunity of the half occurred in the15th minute when newcomer Kylie Maher (Halifax, Mass.) put a shot on frame, but Falcons goalie Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) denied the shot to preserve the 0-0 stalemate going into the break.

Following intermission, the Buccaneers threatened when junior Julia Podchaiski (Wallingford, Conn.) registered back-to-back shots on frame that Gough was able to turn away. The Falcons answered with a shot by junior Patricia Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.) that grazed the crossbar as neither team was able to find the back of the net to send the contest into overtime.

In the overtime period, the Green and Gold managed the only shot on target with sophomore Abbey Quirbach (Lowell, Mass.) fired a shot in the 93rd minute that Durgin corralled to preserve the 0-0 deadlock.
