Henniker, NH– Two goals from Leeann Demirjian propelled New England College past the Fitchburg State Falcons in double overtime in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday evening.
The Basics
Score: Fitchburg State 1, New England College 2 2OT
Records: Fitchburg State (0-5-1) | New England College (2-6)
How It Happened
New England notched the only score of the first half when senior Leeann Demirjian (Needham, Mass.) connected on a deep ball from outside the box for the early lead.
The Falcons knotted the score midway through the second frame. Sophomore Abbey Quirbach (Lowell, Mass.) streaking down the right side saucered a centering pass to Shannon McCarthy (Chicopee, Mass.) who corralled the pass and deposited her first goal of the season.
The Green and Gold had the best chance in the first overtime as McCarthy was stymied on a partial break-a-way to end the stanza. NEC broke the stalemate in the 105th minute of play with a penalty kick from Demirjian after a defensive penalty from the Falcons in the box.
