Women's Soccer Draw Even With Hawks In Non-Conference Action

Westcott nets game tying goal for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, MA – The Fitchburg State women's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with the Hawks of Roger Williams in non-conference action this afternoon from Elliot Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 1, Roger Williams 1

Records: Fitchburg State (2-4-1, 1-0 MASCAC) | Roger Williams (1-4-2, 0-0-0 CCC)

How It Happened

Roger Williams threatened early in the opening frame as sophomore Julia Robbins (Johnston, RI) streaked in, but Fitchburg State keeper Madison Dawkins (Haverhill, MA) denied the breakaway attempt to preserve the 0-0 stalemate.

The Hawks continued the offensive pressure midway through the first half when senior Raffaella Brunetti (North Providence, RI) put a shot on frame only to have Falcon defender Sophia Moore (Killingly, CT) head the ball off the goal line to keep the score level at 0-0.

Following the intermission, Roger Williams took the lead at the 53:42 mark with junior Sarah Baptista (Smithfield, RI) settled a feed from Brunetti and fired a shot inside the near post for her first marker on the season for the 1-0 edge.

Fitchburg State managed to knot the score in the 83rd minute of action when sophomore Adrianna Westcott (Sayreville, NJ) deposited a shot into the left side of the net for her third score of the 2023 campaign off assists from sophomore Kendra Peretzman (Randolph, MA) and senior Ashley Porter (Upton, MA), resulting in the 1-1 draw.
