Bio

Katie Ruggles begins her first season with the Fitchburg State Women’s Soccer team as Assistant Coach in the spring of 2015.

Ruggles has a knack for teaching players how to improve, not only technically and tactically, but also in terms of confidence and mental toughness.

A 2010 graduate from The University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she was a member of the Women’s Soccer team serving as a 3-year starter at midfield and defense. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, with a minor in Education. After UMass, Ruggles received her Masters of Science in School Counseling at Fitchburg State University in 2013.

Ruggles began her coaching career at Gardner High School in 2013, serving as the Girls Head Soccer Coach. In 2014, she was the Head Girls Soccer Coach at Leominster High School, where she was recognized as the Midland Wachusett ‘A’ Co-Coach of the Year.

Before UMass, Ruggles was a four year letter winner at Lunenburg High School in Lunenburg, MA. She was a four time team MVP, league All-Star, and Central Mass. All-Star. As a senior, was elected League MVP and All-State All-Star. Lunenburg's leading scorer as a junior and senior, setting the school record for points in 2005.

She holds a National ‘E’ and ‘F’ coaching license. Ruggles is also currently a coach for the FC Stars of Massachusetts Soccer Club.

She is currently a Guidance Counselor in Leominster, MA at Johnny Appleseed Elementary School and resides in Worcester, MA.
