Fitchburg State Races At All-New England’s

Desrochers paces men with ninth place showing in the weight toss; Roy leads women with PR in the 1000m

BOSTON, Mass. (February 22, 2012) – Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams were in action this weekend as they competed in the All-New England Championships hosted by Boston University.

For the men, senior thrower Zach Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell) continued his strong throwing, registering a ninth place finish in the 35 pound weight toss with a throw of 17.56m. Desrochers is currently ranked sixth in the nation (19.03m) among Division III schools and has qualified for NCAA Championships to be hosted by North Central College in Illinois on March 8th.

Classmate Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) also had a strong weekend for the Falcons, as the senior runner turned in personal best time of 2:33.62 in the 1000m, while qualifying for the ECAC’s in the process.

Rounding out the men’s participants was the Falcons distance medley relay team of Lary and sophomores Maximin Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock), Ethan Gorecki (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) and Jim Quinlan (North Andover, Mass./North Andover), who also qualified for the ECAC Championships, posting a time of 10:36.42.

On the women’s side, Fitchburg State was paced by sophomore Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable),who turned in a 28th place finish in the 1000m with a PR time of 3:09.49, breaking her previous best by five seconds.

Sophomore Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) rounded out the top performers for the Falcons, posting a solid time of 2:33.49 in the 800m, while placing 27th overall in the event.

Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will be in action next weekend as they compete at the ECAC Championships.
