Fitchburg State Track Earns Fourth In Pre-Season Poll
Men finish with four points in Men’s Poll; Women place fourth with three points
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams were recently selected fourth in the 2014-15 MASCAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.
The Bears of Bridgewater State University were selected as the pre-season favorites to win the 2014-15 MASCAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field title, while the votes were spilt with Bridgewater State and Westfield State tying for first place in the 2014-15 MASCAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field preseason poll as voted on by the coaches from around the league.
On the women’s side, Bridgewater State, the defending MASCAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field champions and Westfield State share the top spot with a total of eight points and two first place votes each. Worcester State was next in third place with five points, while Fitchburg State concluded the poll in fourth place with three points.
Bridgewater State captured two of the four first place votes on the men’s side to amass eight points and narrowly outdistance runner-up Westfield State’s total of seven points that included one first place vote. Worcester State followed in third place with five points as well as the remaining first place ballot, while Fitchburg State rounded out the poll in fourth place with four points.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men’s ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
