Fitchburg State Track Earns Third In Pre-Season Poll

Men finish with six points in Men's Poll; Women place third with four points

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's and women's indoor track and field teams were recently selected third in the 2015-16 MASCAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

On the women's side, Bridgewater State, the defending MASCAC Women's Indoor Track & Field champions and Westfield State share the top spot with a total of eight points and two first place votes each. Fitchburg State and Worcester State concluded this year's poll, tying for third place with a total of four points each.

The Owls of Westfield State University were selected as the pre-season favorites to win the 2015-16 MASCAC Men's Indoor Track & Field title, while the votes were spilt with Bridgewater State and Westfield State tying for first place in the 2015-16 MASCAC Women's Indoor Track & Field preseason poll as voted on by the coaches from around the league.

Westfield State captured two of the four first place votes on the men's side to amass eight points and narrowly outdistance runner-up Bridgewater State's total of seven points that included one first place vote. Fitchburg State followed in third place with six points as well as the remaining first place ballot, while Worcester State rounded out the poll in fourth place with three points.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
