Fitchburg State Takes On Tufts Stampede

Woolley places third overall in the 60H with ECAC qualifying time of 9.38 seconds

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team was in action this afternoon, placing seventh overall with 31 points at the 2016 Tufts Stampede at the Gantacher Field House.

Sophomore Annie Woolley paced the Falcons, placing third overall in the 60 meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 9.38 seconds, while also qualifying for MASCAC's in the 60m (8.57) and the 200 meter (27.44).

The 4x800m relay team of sophomores Shawna Ryan and Casey Taylor, junior Kelly McCarthy and classmate Sadie Zbikowski were also solid, posting a fourth place effort with a DIII New England qualifying time of 10:56.49, while junior Morgan Steele placed second overall in the weight throw with a DIII NE qualifying toss of 13.99m to go along with a pair of post-season qualifiers in the shot put (10.47m) and the 60 meter (8.68).

In the 800 meter, sophomore Nicole Gaffney (2:29.43), classmate Alyssa Cardosa (2:56.30) and junior Elizabeth Norman (2:58.77) all qualified for MASCAC's, placing fifth, tenth and 16th respectively, while newcomer Olivia Milstead turned in a post-season qualifying time of 1:57.11 in the 600m.

McCarthy collected her second MASCAC qualifier on the afternoon in the 1000m with a solid time of 3:33.24, while in the mile Taylor (6:08.22), Ryan (6:18.09) and sophomore Cassie Lavallee (6:26.30) all notched post season qualifying times with Taylor setting a new PR in the process.

In the field, sophomore Holly Sessler finished eighth overall in the high jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 1.42m, while fellow sophomore Michaella Vecchiarelli put for a solid mark of 2.30 meter in the pole vault to qualify for MASCAC's.

In the 5000 meter, senior Jessica Mangan registered a MASCAC qualifying time and new PR time of 21:07.33 with an 11th place finish, while in the long jump freshman Molly Atkinson (4.29m) and junior Melody Francis (4.10m) recorded MASCAC qualifying marks to round out the top Falcon performances on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team will be back in action next Saturday at they compete in the 2015-16 Wesleyan Indoor Invitational II, starting at 10 a.m.
