Fitchburg State Shines At Wesleyan Indoor Invite II

Woolley earns top honors in the 60m hurdles with ECAC qualifying time of 9.30 seconds

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track team was in action this afternoon, completing in the 2016 Wesleyan University Indoor Track Invitational II at the Wesleyan-Bacon Field House.

Sophomore Annie Woolley continued her stellar season for the Falcons, placing first overall in the 60m hurdles with ECAC qualifying time of 9.30 seconds, while junior Morgan Steele qualified for DIII NE's in the weight throw with a toss of 13.72 meters with a third place effort as well as placing second overall in the shot put with a MASCAC qualifying throw of 11.24m.

In the 60 meter Woolley turned in a post-season qualifying time of 8.39 seconds with a seventh place finish, while classmate Huong Hoang posted a new PR and MASCAC qualifying time of 8.58 seconds.

Junior Sadie Zbikowski notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:51.81 with a tenth place effort in the 600 meter, while sophomore Holly Sessler (1:56.89) and newcomer Olivia Milstead (1:57.89) added post-season qualifying times in the event as well.

Senior Jessica Mangan posted a new PR and post-season qualifying time of 6:03.55 in the mile, while in the 800 sophomores Nicole Gaffney (2nd), Shawna Ryan and Bridget Diggins qualified for MASCAC's with times of 2:30.30, 2:39.16 and 2:43.29 respectively.

In the field, Zbikowski collected her second MASCAC qualifying mark on the afternoon, placing third overall in the pole vault with height of 2.90m, while sophomore Michaella Vecchiarelli added a sixth place post-season qualifying vault of 2.75 meter to set a new PR in the process.

Freshman Molly Atkinson registered a MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.36 meters in the long jump with a ninth place finish, while junior Melody Francis notched a posted post-season qualifying jump of 4.31m in the event as well. Sessler rounded out the top Falcon effort on the afternoon, registering a sixth place finish in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.43 meters.

The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team will be back in action next Saturday at they compete in the 2015-16 MASCAC/Alliance Championship Meet, hosted by Plymouth State University, starting at 11 a.m.
