Fitchburg State Excels At MASCAC/Alliance Championships

Woolley captures 60m hurdles MASCAC crown with Open NE qualifying time of 9.22 seconds

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track team was in action this afternoon, completing in the 2016 MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships, hosted by Plymouth State University at the ALL Well North Wellness Center.

Sophomore Annie Woolley claimed top honors in the 60m hurdles with an Open New England qualifying time of 9.22 seconds, while adding a tenth place finish in the 60 meter, turning in a time of 8.46 seconds.

Junior Morgan Steele was also solid for the Falcons, placing third in the shot put with a DIII NE qualifying throw of 11.36m as well as posting a DIII NE qualifying toss of 14.34 meters in the weight throw with a third place effort.

Junior Sadie Zbikowski notched a DIII NE qualifying vault of 4.47 meters with a second place finish, while also placing fifth overall in the 600 meter with time of 1:49.96. In the mile, sophomore Nicole Gaffney finished second with strong time of 5:32.12, while classmate Casey Taylor placed fifth overall with time of 5:50.28.

In the 5000m senior Jessica Mangan posted a time of 20:45.90 with a fourth place finish, while Gaffney placed fourth overall in the 3000 meter with a solid time of 11:11.92.

Junior Kelly McCarthy turned in a time of 3:31.47 in the 1000m, while classmates Michaella Vecchiarelli (2.65m) and Melody Francis (4.47m) rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon, placing fourth and eighth in the pole vault and long jump respectively.

The Fitchburg State women's indoor track team returns to action next weekend as select members with compete in the 2015-16 DIII New England Championships, hosted by Middlebury College for a meet starting at 9 a.m.
