Fitchburg State Opens At UMass Boston Indoor Track Invite

Woolley, Zbikowski and Steele qualify for DIII NE's for Falcons

BOSTON, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team opened the 2016-17 campaign, competing in the  fifth annual UMass Boston Indoor Open on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center.

Junior Annie Woolley paced the women, placing first overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a new personal best and DIII New England qualifying time of 9.13 seconds, while also adding a pair of new PR's in the 200m (26.71) and the 60m dash (8.21), placing third and ninth respectively.

Senior Morgan Steele was also solid for the Falcons, turning in a DIII NE qualifying toss of 13.72 meters with a fourth place effort, while classmate Sadie Zbikowski took top honors in the pole vault with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 3.10m, tying her personal best mark.

In the 200 meter, newcomer Micalea Goldenberg (28.55), junior Amanda Remie (28.60) and freshman Nisa Holley (29.06) placed 39th, 41st and 52nd respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while senior Shawna Ryan turned a post-season qualifying time of 3:25.50 seconds in the 1000m with a third place effort.

Junior Casey Taylor posted a MASCAC qualifying time of 12:09.50 with a seventh place finish in the 3000 meter, while sophomore Ashley Hyde placed seventh in the 800 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 2:34.79.

Goldenberg added a solid performance in the 400m, turning a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:05.36 to place 15th overall, while the 4x400m relay team of Goldenberg, sophomore Amy Kelly, classmate Hannah Barbarotta and Ryan rounded the top Falcons efforts on the day, finishing eighth overall with solid time of 4:34.44.

The Fitchburg State women's indoor track team will be back in action on Friday as it competes in the 2016-17 Plymouth State Winter Classic, starting at 1 p.m.
