Fitchburg State Takes Third Place At The 2016 PSU Winter Classic

Woolley places first in the 60m hurdles with an Open NE qualifying time of 9.17 seconds

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team placed third overall at the 2016 Plymouth State University Winter Classic this afternoon with a total of 98 points.

Junior Annie Woolley led the way for the Green and Gold, earning top honors in the 60m hurdles with an Open New England qualifying time of 9.17 seconds, while senior Sadie Zbikowski turned in a DIII NE qualifying mark and new PR of 3.15 meters with a first place finish in the pole vault.

Senior Morgan Steele was also solid for the Falcons with a pair of DIII New England qualifying marks in the weight throw (14.53m) and the shotput (11.45m), placing second and fourth respectively, while Woolley added a DIII NE qualifying time of 26.98 seconds in the 200 meter with a first place effort.

On the track, junior Shawna Ryan notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 6:14.03 in the mile to place fifth overall, while in the 3000m classmate Casey Taylor (6th), sophomore Amy Kelly (8th) and freshman Erin Bresnahan (9th) posted post-season qualifying times of 11:51.77, 12:26.55 and 13:20.83 respectively.

Freshman Micalea Goldenberg  finished first overall in the 400 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:05.57, while n the 60 meter, Woolley registered a post-season qualifying time of 8.34 seconds to place third overall,

The 4x200 meter relay team of  Goldenberg, juniors Amanda Remie and Marie Pierre and sophomore Monique McPherson placed third with a solid time of 2:00.74, while senior Melody Francis turned in a third place effort in the triple jump with a post-season qualifying jump of 9.48 meters.

In the field, senior Michaella Vecchiarelli turned in a MASCAC qualifying vault of 2.50m with a third place finish in the pole vault, while junior Olivia Milsted (4.36m) and Francis (4.33m) rounded out the top Falcon performances, placing fourth and sixth respectively in the long jump to qualify for MASCAC's.

The Fitchburg State women's indoor track team will be back in action following the winter break as they compete in the 2017 Reggie Poyau invitational, hosted by Brandeis University on Saturday, January 14th at 11 a.m.
