Fitchburg State Sets Records At Greater Boston Track Club Invite

Steele sets new school record in the weight throw with Open NE qualifying toss of 15.44m

 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team recently competed in the 2017 Greater Boston Track Club Invite, hosted by Harvard University on Sunday afternoon at the Harvard Gordon Track and Tennis Center.

Senior Morgan Steele placed sixth in the weight throw with an Open New England qualifying toss of 15.44 meters, surpassing the previous school record set by Heather Ewing in 1991, while junior Annie Woolley took top honors in the 60 meter hurdles with an Open NE qualifying time of 8.24 seconds.

Senior Sadie Zbikowski registered a DIII New England qualifying mark of 3.35 meters with a second place finish in the pole vault to set a new PR in the process, while junior Amanda Remie turned in a solid time of 28.40 seconds in the 200 meter to place ninth overall.

Freshman Micalea Goldenberg notched a post-season qualifying time of 1:54.72 in the 600 meter with a 14th place effort, while in the 1000m, junior Shawna Ryan (11th) and newcomer Erin Bresnahan (14th) collected post-season qualifying times of 14:21.41 and 14:22.09 respectively.

In the 800 meter, sophomore Ashley Hyde placed second overall with a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:36.25, while junior Casey Taylor posted a post-season qualifying time of 11:57.65 in the 3000 meter with a 19th place finish.

In the field, sophomore Hannah Barbarotta registered a seventh place effort in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.30m, while freshman Monique McPherson qualified for MASCAC's in the long jump with a ninth place jump of 4.67 meters. Steele rounded out the top efforts on the day for the Green and Gold, placing ninth overall in the shot put with a MASCAC qualifying toss of 10.02 meters.

The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team will be back in action next weekend as they complete in both the 2017 Tufts Stampede Invitational and the 2017 BU John Thomas Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
