Fitchburg State Places Fourth At MASCAC Championships

Woolley qualifies for Open New England's in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.58 seconds

GORHAM, Maine. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track team was in action this afternoon, placing fourth overall at the 2017 MASCAC/Alliance Championships with a total of 62 points, hosted by the University of Southern Maine.

Junior Annie Woolley led the way for the Falcons, placing third overall in the 55 meter hurdles with an Open New England qualifying time of 8.58 seconds, while adding a fourth place finish in the 55 meter dash (7.33 seconds) and a second place effort in the 200 meter (27.00 seconds) to qualifying for DIII New England's in both events.

Senior Sadie Zbikowski placed second in the pole vault with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 3.25 meters, while classmate Morgan Steele registered a DIII New England qualifying toss of 13.79 meters in the weight throw.

Junior Amanda Remie turned in a solid time of 28.03 seconds in the 200 meter to place sixth overall, while newcomer Micalea Goldenberg finished fifth in the 400 meter with a time of 103.94. In the 800 meter, junior Shawna Ryan was also solid, finishing fourth overall with time of 2:43.97.

The 4x200 meter relay team of Remie, Goldenberg, sophomore Samantha Woodman and senior Melody Francis posted a fourth place time of 1:36.44, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Goldenberg, Ryan, Zbikowski and sophomore Hannah Barbarotta notched a time of 4:43.65 to finish fourth overall.

Junior Casey Taylor registered a time of 5:50.29 in the mile with a sixth place effort, while in the long jump senior Olivia Milsted (4.58m) and Francis (4.46m) placed eighth and ninth respectively.

Steele added a second place finish in the shotput with toss of 10.86 meters, while Francis notched a seventh place effort in the triple jump with a mark of 9.63 meters. Junior Michaella Vecchiarelli rounded out the top Falcon effort on the afternoon, placing fourth in the pole vault with vault of 2.90 meter to set new PR in the process.

The Fitchburg State women's indoor track team returns to action next weekend as select members compete in the 2016-17 DIII New England Indoor Championships, hosted by Tufts University, starting on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
