Fitchburg State Competes At DIII New England Championships

Woolley sets new school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.83 seconds 

BOSTON, MASS. – The Fitchburg State women''s indoor track and field team competed in the 2017 Division III New England Championships this afternoon, hosted by MIT at the Reggie Lewis Indoor Track & Field Center.

 Junior Annie Woolley continued her stellar 2016-17 campaign, placing second overall in the 60 meter hurdles with an Open New England qualifying time of 8.83 seconds to claim All-New England honors, while setting a new school record in the process.

Senior Sadie Zbikowski was also solid for the Falcons turning in a 17th place effort in the pole vault with mark of 3.10 meters, while classmate Morgan Steele finished 21st in the shot put (10.54m) and 19th in the weight throw (12.57m).

The 4x200 meter relay team of Woolley, junior Shawna Ryan, senior Melody Francis and newcomer Micalea Goldenberg put forth a strong 17th place time of 1:57.15,, while the 4000 meter distance medley relay team had a strong showing as well.

The DMR team of juniors Nicole Gaffney, Casey Taylor and Shawna Ryan as well as sophomore Ashley Hyde posted a time of 14:29.05 with a 17th place finish to round out the top performance for the Green and Gold on the day.

The Fitchburg State women's indoor track team returns to action next weekend as select member compete in the 2017 Open New England Championships, hosted by Northeastern University, starting on Friday, February 24th at 2 PM.
