Fitchburg State Excels At Reggie Poyau Invitational

Woolley earns top honors in the 55 meter hurdles with time of 8.54 seconds 

Waltham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team placed sixth at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational with a total of 31 points this afternoon at the Gorman Sports and Convocation Center on the campus of Brandeis University.

Senior Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) continued her stellar 2017-18 season after earning top honors in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.54 seconds, while also finishing fifth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.68 seconds.

Senior Sadie Zbikowski (Ashburnham, Mass.) placed third overall in the pole vault with mark of 2.90 meters, while freshman Megan Socha (Chicopee, Mass.) finished sixth in the event with vault of 2.60 meters.

In the 800 meter, freshman Kambrynn Bowman (Norton, Mass.), junior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.), senior Shawna Ryan (Hanson, Mass.) and junior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) placed third, seventh, eighth and 12th respectively with MASCAC qualifying times of 1:30.90, 2:39.38. 2:40.82 and 3:07.46, while senior Nicole Gaffney (Paxton, Mass.) turned in a post-season qualifying time of 5:50.79 with an eighth place effort in the mile.

Freshman Isabella Berardi (Norton, Mass.) (8th) and sophomore Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) (12th) notched MASCAC qualifying times of 1:06.90 and 1:09.01 in the 400 meter, while in the 200 meter, Berardi and newcomer Makaisha Gonzalez (Leicester, Mass.) added post-season qualifying times of 28.90 seconds and 30.91 seconds respectively.

In the 55 meter hurdles, Gonzalez (7th) and freshman Rene Gagne (North Attleboro, Mass.) (13th) qualified for MASCAC's with times of 9.55 seconds and 10.17 seconds, while Gagne (8.29), Gonzalez (8.37) and Goldenberg also notched post-season qualifying times in the 55 meter dash.

In the field, sophomore Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) placed seventh in the shot put (10.11m) and eighth in the weight throw (9.39m) to qualify for MASCAC's in both events, while classmate Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) finished 12th in the weight throw and 19th in the shotput with toss of 7.41m and 6.50m.

In the long jump, Berardi placed fourth overall with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.78 meters, while Socha turned in a seventh place effort in the high jump with a post-season qualifying mark jump of 1.34 meters to round out the top performances on the afternoon for the Falcons.

The Fitchburg State women's track and field team returns to action next weekend as it completes in the 2017-18 Greater Boston Track Club Invite, hosted by Harvard University on Sunday for a meet starting at 9:00 A.M.
