Fitchburg State Shines At Greater Boston Track Invite

Young earns pair of top eight finishes in the shot put and weight throw 

Cambridge, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team returned to action this afternoon, competing in the 2018 Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center, hosted by Harvard University this afternoon.

Sophomore Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) paced the Falcons, placing sixth overall in the shot put with a MASCAC qualifying throw of 9.95 meters, while adding an eighth place post-season qualifying  toss of 9.66m in the weight throw .

Freshman Kambrynn Bowman (Norton, Mass.) was also solid for Fitchburg State, finishing seventh overall in the 1000 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 3:14.47, while in the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Makaisha Gonzalez (Lancaster, Mass.) (9th) and classmate Rene Gagne (North Attleboro, Mass.) (19th) turned in post-season qualifying times of 10.27 seconds and 10.89 seconds respectively.

In the 3000 meter, junior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.) qualified for MASCAC's after placing seventh overall with PR time of 10:50.52, while senior Nicole Gaffney (Paxton, Mass.) notched a time of 11:52.01 in the event.

Freshman Isabella Berardi (Norton, Mass.) and senior Amanda Remie (Marstons Mills, Mass.) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 28.17 seconds and 29.14 seconds after placing 12th and 26th respectively, while in the 60 meter dash, Remie (8.69) and senior Angelica Beato (Lowell, Mass.) (8.83) added post-season qualifying times.

Sophomore Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) turned in a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:08.26 in the 400 meter with an 18th place effort, while in the 600m, senior Shawna Ryan (Hanson, Mass,) and freshman Isabella Denio-Miller (Washington, Ind.) finished 14th and 16th respectively to both qualify for MASCAC's.

In the field, newcomer Megan Socha (Chicopee, Mass.) placed sixth in the high jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 1.40 meters, while also qualifying for MASCAC's in the pole vault with an 18th place vault of 2.60 meters.

Sophomore Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) placed 18th in the weight throw (6.33m) and ninth in the shot put (6.79m), while junior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day after finishing 25th overall in the 800 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 3:05.54.

The Fitchburg State women's track and field team returns to action next weekend as members compete at both Boston University and Tufts University on Saturday, January 27th.
