Fitchburg State Excels At Wesleyan And Open NE’s

Socha places seventh overall in the pole vault with mark of 2.75 meters 

Middletown, Conn. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team returned to action this afternoon, competing at the 2018 Wesleyan Indoor Invitational, while select members also competed at the 2018 Open New England Championships.

Freshman Megan Socha (Chicopee, Mass.) paced the Falcons, placing seventh overall in the pole vault with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 2.75 meters, while adding a post-season qualifying mark of 1.36 meters in the high jump.

In the 60 meter dash, senior Amanda Remie (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and junior Samantha Woodman (Essex, Mass.) turned in post-season qualifying times of 8.84 seconds and 9.00 seconds respectively, while newcomer Isabella Berardi (Norton, Mass.) and sophomore Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) added MASCAC qualifying times of 28.21 seconds and 29.41 seconds.

Senior Shawna Ryan (Hanson, Mass.) posted a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:48.36 with a seventh place finish in the 600 meter, while in the 800 meter freshman Kambrynn Bowman (Norton, Mass.) (7th) and senior Nicole Gaffney (Paxton, Mass.) notched post-season qualifying times of 2:29.241 and 2:38.96 respectively.

In the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Makaisha Gonzalez (Lancaster, Mass.) finished eighth overall with a post-season qualifying time of 10.60 seconds, while Goldenberg added a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:08.83 in the 600 meter.

In the field, Berardi finished ninth overall in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.77 meters, while junior Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) posted a pair of post-season qualifying tosses in the shot put (9.98m) and the weight throw (9.99m).

Sophomore Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) turned in a pair of solid efforts for the Falcons in the shot put (6.66m) and the weight throw (8.88m) to round out the top Falcon performances on the day.

At the 2018 Open New England Championships, senior Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) placed 17th overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a DII New England qualifying time of 9.20 seconds to close out the top efforts for Fitchburg State on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State women's track and field team returns to action next weekend as it completes in the 2018 MASCAC/Alliance Indoor Track Championships, hosted by Rhode Island College on Saturday, February 10th, starting at 10 A.M.
