Falcons Open At Emmanuel Invitational

Murphy paces Green and Gold with third place time of 3:16.35 in the 1000 meter

Boston, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field team opened up its 2019-20 season today, competing in the 2019-20 Emmanuel Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

How It Happened

Freshman Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, placing third overall in the 1000 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 3:16.35, while classmate Megan Socha (Chicopee, Mass.) added a fifth place effort in the pole vault with a post-season qualifying height of 2.44 meters.

In the mile, newcomer Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) (12th) and junior Olivia Mullins (Plaistow, N.H.) (13th) added MASCAC qualifying times of 5:46.45 and 5:46.88, while sophomore Chloe Guzman (Pawtucket, Conn.) and freshman Marissa Ladderbush (Tewksbury, Mass.) notched post-season qualifying times of 8.55 seconds and 8.56 seconds in the 60 meter dash, placing 22nd and 23rd overall.

In the 3000 meter, Murphy (9th), Mullins (10th) and McAndrew (12th) turned in post-season qualifying times of 11:38.78, 11:40.35 and 11:44.02, while Guzman and junior Denise Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.) added a MASCAC qualifying times of 28.59 seconds and 30.26 seconds n the 200 meter.

Freshman Molly Shurtleff (Somerset, Mass.) turned in a post-season qualifying time of 1:11.53 in the 400 meter, while classmate Devin Tormey (Fitchburg, Mass.) registered a 24th place time of 10:68 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles to also qualify for MASCAC's.

In the field, seniors Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) (13th) and Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) (17th)  as well as junior Allissa Carroll (Boxford, Mass.) and newcomer Samantha Moriconi (Billerica, Mass.) collected MASCAC qualifying and PR tosses of 11.75m, 9.58m, 7.44m and 7.69m in the weight throw, while Moriconi and Young also qualifying for the post-season in the shotput with throws of 9.84m and 9.44m.

In the long jump, Yeboah (20th) and junior Amy Coelho (Bellingham, Mass.) (28th) posted marks of 4.23m and 3.55m, while Ladderbush rounded out the top efforts for the Green and Gold on the day, placing sixth in the pole vault with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 2.44 meters.
