Falcons Shine At Wesleyan Indoor Invite

Camara and Burnett earn second place efforts for Green and Gold

Middletown, Conn. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon as they competed at the 2023 Wesleyan Indoor Invite at the Bacon Field House on the campus of Wesleyan University.

How It Happened

Junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons today, placing second overall in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.52 meters, while senior Maria Burnett (Fitchburg, Mass.) turned in a second place time of 2:34.35 in the 800 meter to qualify for the post-season.

Senior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) finished third in the 1000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 3;20.12, while freshman Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) posted a MASCAC qualifying time of 5:44.24 in the mile after placing second in the event.

In the 800 meter, junior Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) (8th) and freshman Emily Russo (Gardner, Mass.) (13th) notched MASCAC qualifying times of 2:50.15 and 2:55.53, while senior Sophie Geremia (Shrewsbury, Mass.) posted a post-season qualifying time of 12:39.70 with a sixth place effort in the 3000 meter.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Burnett, senior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.), Murphy and Goba notched a fifth place time of 4:44.37, while the second team of Arbia, Russo, newcomer Grace Casale and junior Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) crossed the line at 5:25.74, placing seventh overall.

In the field, freshman Cassandra Israelson notched a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the shot put (7.61M) and the weight throw (7.26M), finishing 22nd and 20th, while junior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) finished 23rd in the shotput and 17th in the weight throw with post-season qualifying tosses of 7.59 meter and 7.69 meters respectively.

Rounding out the top Falcon efforts on the day were McAndrew, who finished sixth in the 600 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:57.28, while freshman Alanis Velez (Lowell, Mass.) turned in a seventh place time of 11.40 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles.
