Murphy places first overall in the 800 meter for Green and Gold

Plymouth, N.H. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon as they competed at the 2023 Panther Invitational, hosted by Plymouth State, placing sixth overall with a total of 46 points

How It Happened

Senior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) led the way for the Green and Gold, taking top honors in the 800 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:31.11, while freshman Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) finished third in the event with a post-season qualifying time of 2:32.57,

Junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) finished second in high jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 1.51 meters, while junior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) posted a fifth place finish of 8.42 meters in the triple jump.

In the 1000 meter, junior Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y) (3rd), freshman Emily Russo (Gardner, Mass.) (6th) and senior Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) (7th) turned times of 3:38.93, 3:53.77 and 4:29.25 with Arbia and Russon qualifying for MASCAC's, while in the 60 meter hurdles, Donelan (11.39) and newcomer Alanis Velez (Lowell, Mass.) (11.52) placed 11th and 13th.

In the 400 meter, senior Lilah McAndrew (Old, Lyme, Conn.) (8th), freshman Trinity Hansen (Worcester, Mass.) (9th), newcomer Cassandra Israelson (10th) and Donelan (11th) posted times of 1:12.90. 1:15.90, 1:22.42 and 1:24.41 respectively, while in the mile, McAndrew and senior Sophia Geremia (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished sixth and 11th with times of 6:00.17 and 6:37.35.

In the field, junior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) notched a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the weight throw (9.14M) and shotput (8.19M) and finishing 13th and 17th, while Israelson place 14th in the weight throw (6.44M) and 21st in the shotput (7.43M).

Velez posted a MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.17 meters in the long jump with a 12th place effort, while also finishing 11th in the 200 meter with a solid time of 3180 seconds, while Geremia placed sixth in the 3000 meter with a time of 12:52,95.

Rounding out the top Falcon efforts on the day were Donelan (11th) and Velez (13th) in the 60 meter hurdles with times of 11.39 seconds and 11.52 seconds.
